Hydrangea quercifolia
![]() | |
Characteristic for this group of hydrangeas are the red-brown leaves in autumn which will remain on the plant until far into the winter. These leaves have the shape and colour of oak leaves, giving this group its name of Oak-leaf Hydrangea. All varieties of this group have cream-white flowers in a more or less conical flowerhead and they can take sun very well. The inflorescences can vary from nearly unfilled with sterile florets (the botanical Hydrangea quercifolia) to very well filled (H. q. ’Harmony’). Pruning is not recommended because it will remove the buds for next year’s flowers. Height up to 1˝ - 2˝ metres. By far the most beautiful variety in this group is the Hovaria® Quercifolia. This one has double florets in bunches and these will flower the whole summer with new white petals growing again and again from the centre of each sterile flower. Each sterile flower will also become a small hanging panicle. If you don't see an index on this page, please click here Created by Koos and Wilko Hofstede Copyright © 2000-2007. All rights reserved. |
