Drying flowers

The flowers of a Hydrangea can be used very well as dried flowers.

The flowers of the Hovaria® varieties (’Hobella’, ’Homigo’, ’Hopaline’ and ’Hobergine’) are especially extremely suitable for that if they are cropped in the second or third phase (green or red).

The best results will be gotten when the flowers have been on the plant as long as possible until they feel stiff and leathery. Put the flower after it has been cut in a little water (shrub fertilizer may be added) and put this in a cool and dark place. In this way the colour will be kept very well. Do not fill up the water in the vase. After that the flowers can be hanged (upside down) in the same room. Also glycerine can be added to the water. By this the flowers will keep their colour even better but will also be a little more brittle. Dried flowers can be used very well in flower arrangements and wreaths of flowers. The diversity of green and red colours of the Hovaria® varieties is especially very beautiful. The dried flowers will fade more as time passes and if the light intensity is higher. But with good care of your Hovaria® Hydrangeas in your garden, it will be possible to crop new flowers for drying every year.
